Since this post is probably going to make me sound like I hate the environment and all things Mother Nature, I want to start by emphasizing that I am a green-a-holic (if that’s even the right word). I sold my car years ago and use public transportation. I always bring recyclable grocery bags everywhere I go. And, when I was 11, I single-handedly converted every house on my entire street into recyclers. Sure there were only six houses, but for an 11-year-old with the attention span of a cockapoo, that’s pretty good, no?
But if there’s one “Green” trend I just can’t seem to get behind, it’s the idea of green weddings. Yes, I realize this might make me a horrible person. But I think I’ve decided I’m OK with that. They way I see it is that I spend every other day of my life doing my best to help protect the planet. So if I want one day to be about me, then I feel like Mother Nature should be able to cut me some slack. So yes, I want to have my wedding in some exotic place that forces all my guests to fly and then rent cars to get there. And yes, I want to have an old Royals Royce drive me around instead of a Hybrid. And yes, I’m going to send extra-thick invitations printed on sparkling white paper, even if that paper isn’t recycled (but my guests are welcome to recycle the invites after the wedding). In short, the day I get married is going to be entirely about me. My family knows that. My future husband, wherever he is, knows that. And God knows that. So I’m pretty sure He took that into account when he created the earth however many years ago, and so He’s not going to be too mad at me when get a bit, how-shall-I-say… “less than carbon neutral.”
