I will only have two bridesmaids.  When it came down to choosing my wedding party, I had a dangerous problem: too many close friends.  Sure, I could add more people to my wedding party, but suddenly there would be no one left sitting in the seats during the ceremony.  In addition, most of my wedding guests will be traveling across the country to come to our wedding.  It seemed cruel and unusual punishment to laden someone with all that extra debt.

As I am only having two bridesmaids, I decided to let them choose their own dress.  Yes, I partook in the shopping trips.  And yes, I did voice my opinion as to what would look good and what wouldn’t.  But, at the end of the day, both girls got dresses that they will wear again and for a really great price!  We were lucky enough to find two dresses on sale that didn’t look heinous.

I think letting your bridesmaid’s pick their own dresses is a great way to find a dress that is in their budgets and fits their bodies.  Happy bridesmaids make a happy bride.

My first (informational) post as editor of Practically Ever After, and although I said I was going to switch the direction a bit away from wedding savings advice, I found an article too good to pass up. Well, it’s actually a three-part blog (with the third post not being released until tomorrow), but I figured I’d go ahead and post it now anyway because the author makes a great point.

Basically, the writer’s trick to wedding savings and how to have a fantastic wedding on the cheap is two-fold: First, do a lot of research; and second, don’t be afraid to make a phone call. You see, in this economy, even the most sought-after wedding vendors — like that great florist who always manages to have the most gorgeous lilies known to man, or the caterer with delicious lobster raviolis — are hurting. And they’re hurting even more because the frugal brides without a huge budget don’t even think they can afford to hire the best. But all it takes is a little research (on places like Google and wedding blogs like Practically Ever After) to find the names of the best wedding vendors in your area. From there, it’s just a matter of picking up the phone, giving the vendor a call, and telling them your budget.  Sure, one or two might not want to work with you. But the vast majority of top-shelf wedding vendors will be so grateful for the work, they’ll figure out a way to make your budget work.

And let’s be honest for a moment.  Even those beautiful lilies don’t exactly cost the florist the $50 a centerpiece she’s charging you, let alone the $500 she might be charging someone else, so it’s not like she’s not making a profit

Have you ever experienced attending a wedding and something really funny or outrageous happened? Well, I have. And I’m sure some of you have also experienced unexpected things which happened in a wedding you have attended.

It was the wedding of a good friend of mine and I was one of the bridesmaids. I overheard the best man talking about the groom’s ordeal. The best man said that the groom was awake the whole night because he was really nervous about his wedding. He couldn’t sleep. He kept on calling him, the best man, on the phone. The best man tried to convince the groom to rest, but his pleads fell on deaf ears. Desperate for a shut eye the best man gently hanged up and unplugged the wire of his phone while the groom was busy blabbering. The best man said he went back to sleep with a smile on his face.

When the wedding planner told us that the ceremony will start shortly, we all went to our places and got ready to march down the aisle. My friend the bride was really beautiful and the groom looked handsome as well, though, a little sluggish.

We were all seated and listening to the priest’s homily. As the priest was about to end his homily a loud strange sound suddenly caught our attention which kept us all really quiet. We all looked at each other searching for the location where the strange sound was coming from. It was like a growl of a menacing animal. We were all looking from left to right when we saw the bride giggling. She then burst out laughing while shaking the groom gently. Then we learned that the groom fell asleep and snoring out loud. The priest was also laughing with bride and jokingly said: “In Jesus name, I command thee to rise!” Then everybody started to guffaw.

That was really one hilarious wedding I have attended. Now, I will link you to a site where you can read more hilarious wedding stories from real people. Let’s talk about one of the important items in a wedding list which, I think, we haven’t touched yet since we started writing wedding blogs. Maybe we have mentioned it in the past, but we haven’t really focused on it. What I’m talking about is the wedding or the bridal car.

Yes, the wedding car is really important, unless you want to walk from your house to the church, or just ride a wedding bike… if there is one. Some don’t need it since they get married in their backyard. But most often, brides need to have their modern day carriage. It would be a pity to see a beautiful bride walk under a scorching sun.

Here’s a nasty, but pretty funny, wedding speech from a best man who hates the bride for monopolizing his friend’s time. Two New Zealand disc jockeys called him up and asked if he would like to rehearse his speech on air. The best man obliged and the DJs couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing the speech while broadcasting it nationwide.

The speech was delivered the way a horse race track announcer would deliver a blow by blow account of the race. It’s pretty funny that it seems the bride’s groom and his friends are very much into horse racing. Lesson learned here is, if you are a bride, you better be nice to your groom’s friends. Coz, if this happens to you, never mind all the wedding savings you had since the wedding would be ruined anyway.

I know you want your groom to be involved in the wedding preparations as much as you are. But let’s face it, men are men. No, don’t frown yet. I only said men are men, I didn’t say there’s no hope for you.

I was shocked to see this video clip and I felt sad for the bride in the video. Her wedding day was supposed to be the happiest and most memorable day in her life. Yes, it was a memorable day, but it was a horrific one as well.

Dahlens, all I’m trying to ask from all of you is to please, please do be careful whenever you’re handling any fiery stuff. It’s hard to predict when an accident is bound to happen. Don’t let your big wedding savings go to waste because you ended up in the hospital after some freak accident you could’ve avoided. In fact, just stay away from anything that has to do with fire. All that fabric and ribbons plus flames is a disaster waiting to happen. You are already the hottest girl on your wedding day, you don’t need to show it literally.
