Vendors love the “W” word, because it means huge mark-ups. I’ve heard vendors rationalize these price increases because brides are more demanding than normal consumers. I don’t think this is true. I am much more demanding about an event for work than I am for my wedding.

In any case, wedding cakes can be very expensive, much more than normal cakes. A dessert bar is a growing trend to replace wedding cakes. Many guests don’t actually like wedding cake. Why not give them a variety of yummy desserts to choose from? If you want to partake in the cutting of the wedding cake tradition, you can always have a small cake just for you two. Or, if having a wedding cake is important for pictures- rent a fake one.

I’ve not YET heard of a vendor marking up a wedding pie or a wedding brownie. If the season was right, I would love an ice cream sundae bar at our wedding…

Since I have already posted about Caribbean wedding traditions and customs and mentioned something about their wedding cake called the “Black Cake,” I thought it would be great if I actually include a video on how to make one.

I searched youtube to get the best video I could find and this one is, I believe, the best video where you can learn how to bake a “Black Cake.” The video is by Chef Ramin Ganeshram, a cookbook writer and instructor of Caribbean cooking at the Institute of Culinary Education, in New York City.

I hope you’ll enjoy learning and cooking this cake recipe. Maybe you can bake it for your wedding and have some great wedding savings. Have a great weekend!

Today, I have just featured a weird wedding alien cake. And now, I will be featuring the company who made it. I’m sure a lot of you would want to be unique and this is the place for you to go to.

Jet City Cakes tag line is: “Wild Cakes for Weird Times”. Now, this of course would already give you an idea about what kind of cakes they make. They even say that they specialize in outrageous cakes for all occasions. And if you can imagine it, they can make it into a cake.

Ok, so maybe you are going to ask who’s the fabulous person behind this very innovative and exciting cake company? Well, the founder happens to be Paul Quinn. A Northwest native, Paul started as an apprentice to Duff Goldman, the owner of Charm City Cakes and also a star of the Food Network show, “Ace of Cakes,” which Paul happens to be a part of. Paul is known as the Ninja, a moniker given by Duff, due to his ninja-like skills in decorating a cake.

Jet City Cakes creates really good cake designs. Weird, but definitely eye catching cake masterpieces. If you want to have your wedding cake designed by Jet City Cakes, prices vary depending on the intricacy of the design, the amount of work they’re going to put in, along with the number of people to serve. Their minimum price per cake is pegged at $350 and can run upwards of up to $2500. But if you are on a budget and you want some wedding savings, they can also work with budgets. These cool dudes are reasonable when it comes to working around your budget. Just talk to them and maybe they can come up with an inexpensive wedding cake you’ll definitely love.

So, just click the link and start shopping for cakes. Toodles!

Oh what a wonderful day it is today. Pardon me for being too enthusiastic, as always I feel fabulous and I was just happy because I received a lot of good news this week. Well, it’s personal and I’m oozing with excitement.

Anyway, I was browsing the internet to look for something to feature. And I saw this site for a cake company called Jet City Cakes. This particular cake site caught my attention for they are making really interesting cakes. And if there was ever a contest for weird wedding cakes, this one, er… takes the cake! (pardon the pun)

When I saw this cake, I said to myself, “That this is one eerily delicious cake.” It gives me goosebumps as I imagine devouring this bizarre wedding creation. People who order this kind of cake must be die-hard fans of sci-fi movies. And they probably won’t care if it’s hardly going to be an inexpensive wedding cake because it is unique, and, boy, will it be the cake everyone will remember .

This cake even made me wonder if I would be able to eat it, or rather, if the cake would eat me instead. It looked like that it came in Peace, but it will definitely leave in pieces! I’ll see you in awhile, I still have one more post for you to read.

Helloooooooooh… you fabulous, fabulous people! Your wedding diva is back and I’m here to talk to you about Scandinavian wedding customs, particularly from Denmark. I’ll be discussing what happens in a Danish wedding and we will leave wedding savings and inexpensive weddings for another day.

Now, in traditional Danish weddings, it is customary for them to place or build an arc of pine branches in front of the bride’s family home. This is called the “Gate of Honor”. It is customary for the couple to walk through the arc (gate of honor) on the way to the ceremony. When the couple reach and celebrate their silver wedding anniversary, another Gate of Honor would be built.

Wedding receptions in Denmark are quite different from what we are accustomed to. At some point during the celebration, the groom will leave the room and all the male guests will kiss the bride. When the groom returns it would be the bride’s turn to disappear or leave the room and all the female guests will kiss the groom. I really don’t know the point of the groom and bride leaving the room when one of them is being kissed. Maybe Danes are a jealous people? Who knows. But I think it’s quite a lovely, unique tradition if you ask me.

The customary wedding cake in Denmark is the Danish marzipan ring cake (shaped like cornucopia), also known as Kransekake. This particular cake is made with almonds, pastilage, and marzipan (fondant). The outer part of the cake is beautifully decorated by sugar works, while the inside of the cake is filled with fresh fruits, candies, and almond pastry. It is a must that the guests eat the piece of cake cut by the bride and the groom as a married couple to avoid bad luck.

Danish people have this lovely tradition that the bride’s bouquet would be placed on the grave of a deceased parent. That said, don’t be surprised if you also see wedding parties in the cemetery!

And finally, instead of ribbons, Danish people use a string of Danish flags on their wedding car. It seems that Danes have this obsession with their flag. Maybe it just shows how patriotic the Danish are.
I hope you enjoyed today’s topic and please, enjoy your weekend. Toodles!
